Join the Cyber Team supporting NASA's Goddard NASCOM Mission Network Security Team as we secure and defend the worldwide NASA Mission Network. The role of Cybersecurity Engineer is a hands-on technical position joining a seasoned and diverse team of cybersecurity professionals. The team is committed to protecting NASA missions (terrestrial and celestial).

PLEASE NOTE: Position is HYBRID 50% remote / 50% onsite support at client site Goddard Space Flight Center (NASA) in Greenbelt, MD

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Review and recommend proposed changes to the network or systems to determine impact to security.

  • Implement security engineering solutions for layer 2/3 devices and servers.

  • Perform scans of systems and provide guidance to assist system owners with remediation or mitigation.

  • Analyze security alerts, update and maintain various CoTS tools including Tenable.SC, Cisco SNA, IDS, MFA, EPS, HCL BigFix, etc. Adjust policies and work with Federal partners as needed to minimize false positives.

  • Analyze network traffic for trends and irregularities using netflow and full packet capture.

  • System Administration to update and maintain OS to include ESXi, Ubuntu, Debian, RHEL, and Windows.

  • Create, update, and maintain RMF and design/configuration/diagrams documents for NASCOM. 

  • Create tickets, collect relevant logs, and review other relevant data as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or IT related field (4 years of additional experience in lieu of degree) and 5+ years of IT experience.

  • Must possess an active DoD SECRET clearance. (U.S. Citizen required)

  • Hands-on working experience in cybersecurity engineering, intrusion detection, incident response, or forensic analysis.

  • Solid understanding of computer network protocols including TCP/IP and encryption.

  • Linux and Windows system administration experience.

  • Working knowledge of information security issues, solutions, trends, and leading practices.

  • Demonstrated analytical and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coding/Scripting experience e.g. Perl, Bash, Python, PowerShell, etc.

  • Experience working with networking and security tools such as Tenable Security Center, End Point Security, IDS, ProofPoint, SNA, and Splunk.

  • Experience with VMware Hypervisor and related tools.

  • Certifications such as Security+, CISSP, GCIA, CEH, GCIH, or GCFA.

  • A self-starter, performing tasks with minimal supervision but working effectively with immediate and cross-functional team members.

  • Effective communicator (both verbal and written).

  • Excellent organizational, attention to details, multi-tasking, and time management skills.

  • NASA Experience.

  • Possess Secret security clearance (or ability to obtain one).
