Senior Threat Researcher, Rubrik Zero Labs

ABOUT THE TEAM

You will be part of a rapidly growing, new team at Rubrik–Rubrik Zero Labs.  This team is laying the foundation for Rubrik’s threat focus and larger research in data security.  Rubrik Zero Labs is on a mission to deliver actionable, vendor-agnostic insights to reduce data security risks.  We advance data security outcomes based on real-world cyber threat assessments and cyber resiliency best practices.  Our work focuses on three core pillars:

• Operationalize Evil Finding: Create proactive, actionable decision points from data-driven observations and trend analysis.
• Reduce Risk: Work to eliminate threat options through research, public advocacy, partnership efforts, and technical changes to core data security technologies or tradecraft.
• Improve our Community: Act as a trusted advisor in the data security space through detailed research on security topics, models, and external publications.

ABOUT THE JOB

You will be a core part of growing out an emerging, critical function impacting every aspect of Rubrik.  Rubrik Zero Labs develops all aspects of Rubrik’s threat focus for guiding our senior leaders and products, directly finding evil affecting our customers, and driving thought leadership across the data security space. This high-visibility role will also require core team and process building aspects for both Rubrik Zero Labs and how our team integrates across Rubrik.  Your tasks will require: 

• Prioritize and conduct threat research benefiting Rubrik customers
• Implement and refine detection/threat hunting efforts
• Build process and documentation for a wide range of efforts
• Work across engineering, communications, product, design/UX in efforts to improve how Rubrik works
• Contribute to thought leadership work by converting Rubrik Zero Labs evil finding to core content with multiple other teams
• Create public pieces in a range of formats like blogs, podcasts, presentations, etc
• Implement relevant analytical models and contribute data security elements back to these same models
• Interact across Rubrik ranging from subject matter experts through the C-suite
• Fail fast–we expect failure to push us forward

ABOUT YOU

In your day-to-day work, you will leverage your past experience in delivering threat research in a range of formats, building new efforts and refining their execution, work across a range of technologies, and past ability to deliver the right threat context in the right format to the right decision maker.  You will manage individual projects, priorities, deadlines, and deliverables with your technical expertise.  Rubrik Zero Labs will undergo significant growth in your time on this team and proven ability to shift and grow as a team will be crucial to our success.

• 5+ years of experience in an analytical or operational role (e.g., intelligence, threat analysis, security consulting)
• Experience applying a range of threat intel/research to security outcomes
• Familiar with the following areas and associated tools: intrusion operations, enterprise security controls, email analysis, log analysis, network flow and traffic analysis, malware triage, incident response processes, cyber attack lifecycles and models
• Experience with core cybersecurity concepts, risk management frameworks, common enterprise IT infrastructure components, operating system internals, and networking fundamentals
• Experience applying research methods and analytic techniques to independently address complex analytic problems
• Proven team player with deep expertise cultivating relationships
• Demonstrated history growing teams/workflows across multiple maturity levels
• Ability to express complex technical and non-technical concepts verbally, graphically, and in writing for generalist and specialist audiences

The minimum and maximum base salaries for this role are posted below; additionally, the role is eligible for bonus potential, equity and benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the role based on U.S. location. Within the range, the salary offered will be determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.US Pay Range$151,200—$226,800 USD
