About the role

Overview

Do you want to work on the .NET Roslyn Team as a Software Engineer II building languages and tools loved by millions of developers?

The .NET Roslyn team is looking for an engineer to work on the open-source C# tools and compiler. This involves adding new language features and building the tooling to make coding in C# a joy in Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code and leveraging Copilot to further enhance the experience.

This team builds experiences that enable developers to convert their ideas to high quality code very quickly through features like code completion, IntelliSense, background code analysis, automatic execution of unit tests, code explanation, improvements and refactorings through copilot and many more exciting features on VS, VS Code, and open-source IDEs. The team also builds experiences that help developers understand and quickly navigate existing code bases directly from GitHub.

Culturally, the team is dedicated to a growth mindset, with an eye to keeping pace with the changing needs of a diverse set of customers. The team works closely with C# and VB developer community in open source (https://github.com/dotnet/roslyn) as well as closed source software, always looking for opportunities to help them be more effective.  The team provides early and frequent previews so that the community can be active contributors to the design, development and evolution of our tools. All of this leads to the production of creative solutions which are simple yet elegant and operate with high performance.

Team members are expected to use AI to aid in their own productivity as well as share their experiences to help teammates on how to use AI to inspire others on new ways of using AI to aid in the development process.  As a developer tools team, that may include designing and building new ways to leverage AI as product features.

Microsoft’s Developer Division (“DevDiv”) is chartered with empowering every developer and every development team on the planet to build great software faster. The .NET team within DevDiv does that by building the .NET development platform for building apps of any type, for any OS. Millions of developers worldwide use .NET in their job and as a .NET engineer you would help build the APIs, tools, and end-to-end experiences that make .NET loved by so many developers.
