Job Summary
The Nuclear Design Engineering department at North Anna Nuclear Power Station in Mineral Virginia is seeking a Civil Design Engineer I, II or Engineer III. This position will be filled at a level commensurate with the successful candidate’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating design modifications to nuclear plant systems including the preparation and review of
- Design modification packages using the standard design process
- Civil system drawings
- Performing calculations and analysis to support modification and operation of plant systems
- Reviewing changes for impact on plant design and licensing basis
Other duties involve completing performance evaluations of equipment required for the mission of the station and supporting other station departments with technical engineering related activities managed by the Engineering Department.
Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3 and above, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined are strongly encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience required for this job include the following: Engineer I - 0-2 years of relevant engineering experience; Engineer II - 3+ years of relevant engineering experience; Engineer III - 5+ years of relevant engineering experience. The candidate should have a commitment to safety and quality assurance in all aspects of design and operations at the station. Additional qualifications include:
- Knowledge of Civil engineering principles, passive structures, material science and including some structural mechanics.
- Demonstrated competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives.
- Knowledge of fundamental theory, design, systems, structures, components, and operation of pressurized water reactors.
- Ability to define problems, collect information, evaluate data, draw valid conclusions, and develop solutions in a time-critical environment as well as effectively manage multiple tasks.
- Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing)
- Communication skills to work effectively in both an individual and team environment, and to communicate with stakeholders including operators, maintenance personnel, and management.
- Willing to provide in-field evaluation of plant modifications
- Ability to interpret codes, regulations, and procedures.
- Willing to work nights and/or weekend to support critical station needs.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.).
- Willing to become a member of the Emergency Response Organization
REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA:
For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:
Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after
