Staff Software Engineer, Data Governance

Toast is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead a growing team to deliver significant products and core capabilities in the domains of data privacy, security, and access control to ensure that all data at Toast is discoverable, easy-to-use, high-quality, safely accessible, and governed. They will be expected to enhance the team’s effectiveness by becoming a domain expert in their product area, influencing groups across the company to advance the team’s mission, and by mentoring and being a force multiplier for team members.

About this roll* (Responsibilities)

• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to set and evolve plans 
• Deliver products with broad user impact in the domains of data privacy, security, and access control with multiple stakeholders
• Own and review the technical decisions within the team across the entire software development lifecycle process
• Uplevel the entire team by giving and receiving constructive feedback regularly to build trust and promote a psychologically safe space for disagreement, challenge, and growth

• You have a bias towards action, with the ability to balance between getting things done and making things perfect
• You are organized, and enjoy collaborating with and leading other engineers to produce great outcomes
• 8 years of experience in software development
• 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, and experience with compute & storage technologies
• 3 years of experience with software design and architecture

Extra seasoning (Bonus)

• Hands-on experience implementing data privacy, data security, and/or access control frameworks across a large organization
• Experience in data science, analytics, and/or business intelligence tools

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.Pay Range$142,000—$227,000 USD
