Job Description

As we continue to push boundaries and expand globally, we are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic senior resource to join as the Director of Internal Audit (Emerging Technology and Infrastructure).  This role will focus on assessing the effectiveness of Shopify’s risk management practices around cutting-edge technologies including artificial intelligence. This is a unique opportunity to work in an agile audit environment, where your expertise and innovative thinking will be highly valued.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with teams across Shopify (e.g. engineering, data, security, operations, legal) to identify and assess risks associated with emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, privacy and infrastructure.

• Drive the adoption of innovative techniques to develop insights on effectiveness of risk management across Shopify, leveraging data analytics, machine learning, and automation.

• Stay up-to-date with industry trends, advancing technologies, and regulatory requirements to incorporate them into assessments and processes.

• Develop and execute on a risk based project plan aligned with the organization's goals and risk appetite.

• Lead and manage end-to-end assessments of risk management effectiveness (e.g. scoping, planning, fieldwork, reporting, follow-up).

• Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and risk management practices; provide recommendations for improvement.

• Foster a culture of continuous improvement; encouraging creative thinking and challenging the status quo.

• Build strong relationships with key stakeholders including executive management; effectively communicate findings, recommendations, and the value of what our team does.

• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members, fostering their professional growth and development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as computer science, information systems, or business administration. Advanced degree or professional certifications related to audit or risk assessment (e.g. CISA, CISSP, CISM, CRM, CIA) are highly desirable.

• Extensive experience (14+ years) in product, risk or audit areas with a focus on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, privacy, IT or product infrastructure; preferably within a fast-paced ecommerce or technology organization.

• Strong knowledge of industry risk frameworks such as NIST, ISO, and PCI-DSS, as well as emerging technologies and their associated risks.

• Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering complex risk based assessments, including experience with agile project implementation.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and identify innovative solutions to complex challenges.

• Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
