Description
The Recovery from Addictions Program (RAP), operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking an experienced and dynamic registered nurse to provide direction and supervision in the delivery of nursing care. The selected candidate coordinates and oversees the activities of nursing personnel providing care to patients or all shifts on assigned units/beds, at the RAP program and will comply with all federal regulations, 42 CFR Part 2 and Part 8, Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Abuse clients and HIPAA Regulations assuring clients care meets best practice standards. This position also provides direct and/or indirect nursing care as necessary.
Please note: The selected candidate will work 40 hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30AM - 5:00PM with rotation to second and third shift as required, days off will be Sunday and Saturday.
Employees in this position will be required to work mandatory overtime.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Integrates the client perspective into all facets of care; advocates for clients to facilitate timely resolution of client concerns and assists clients in the exercise of their rights.
- Educates staff and clients on confidentiality and privacy issues according to regulations.
- Collaborates with the Director of Nursing (DON) to oversee and supervise nursing department staff on assigned units.
- Collaborates with Unit Manager peers to promote consistency of care management among all units. Receives report on client status daily to ensure proper follow-up of treatment and care on assigned units.
- Identifies and sets priorities for the management of client treatment through data collection, observation and communication with nursing staff and other disciplines.
- Directs and delegates overall supervision of licensed and non-licensed personnel within the nursing department on assigned units and oversees the monitoring and treatment of clients who have a concomitant substance use/medical/psychiatric illness, under the direction of the DON.
- Participates in assessment and evaluation of all emergency response activities of nursing personnel and provides required documentation or oversight of its completion.
- Participates in analyzing and evaluating nursing and related services rendered in the program to review, maintain, and improve nursing services.
- Participates in Nursing Management meetings to identify and resolve problems and make recommendations to administration regarding client care delivery systems through monitoring, assessment, and adjustment of staff in consultation with the DON.
- Facilitates monthly unit meetings for staff on each assigned unit, all shifts.
- Participates in necessary investigations arising from incident reports or complaints and completes required reports within the department.
- Monitors competency, educates, supervises and supports nursing staff on assigned units, ie. RN III, RN II, RN I, LPN II, RTW II, RTW I.
- Collaborates with the Departments of Performance Improvement and Risk Management to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Participates in Joint Commission readiness activities specifically as it pertains to nursing care.
- Reports clinical/administrative/ethical issues at daily clinical meeting and collaborates with charge nurses, nursing supervisors, and interdisciplinary team members for follow up.
