Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
The Oncology Nursing Services RN assumes care for designated patients undergoing chemotherapy and other medication infusions utilizing Marshall Medical Center’s standard of practice and the nursing process. Provides support to the patients preparing them physically and emotionally as needed for the infusion or other procedures and provides pre and post treatment education to the patient and family. This position will use a collaborative approach to evaluate, plan, implement and monitor appropriate options and services of available resources to meet individual patient health needs. Works together with care providers to coordinate seamless cancer care and provide standardized oncology education, orientation, information, guidance and support during chemotherapy and other phases of the patient care continuum. The Oncology Nursing Services RN will assist physicians and staff in the ambulatory setting by coordinating patient care, triaging phone calls, assessing patient needs, assisting with incoming lab and radiology results and monitoring patients for treatments in order to ensure continuous patient safety, comfort and satisfaction. Consistently interacts with patients, families, physicians and staff in a friendly and professional manner and functions as the patient’s advocate at all times.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensure/Certification:
Current California Registered Nursing (RN) License required.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Chemotherapy/Biotherapy provider card required or to be obtained within 90 days of hire.
Central Venous Access Device (CVAD) demonstrated competency required within 90 days of hire.
National Oncology Nursing Certification (ONC) strongly preferred.
Palliative Care certification preferred.
Knowledge:
3+ years of experience as an active Oncology RN required.
Current knowledge of oncology nursing care required.
Current knowledge of oncology disease processes and treatments and symptom management preferred.
Experience with oncology patient education, counseling care coordination, case management and/or “navigation” preferred.
Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong ability to function independently and be self-directed.
Effective organization and prioritization skills.
Ability to achieve results in the face of multiple challenges
Must have a high level of integrity and a strong concern for patient/family satisfaction
Basic computer skills required.
