Job Description:

Louisiana State University’s flagship campus is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as the Associate Vice President for Civil Rights and Title IX Coordinator.  Located in the state capital of Baton Rouge, is Louisiana’s premier public institution. It is a land-, sea-, and space-grant institution enrolling some 32,000 students studying in nearly 200 bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and specialist programs. The flagship campus includes the Paul M. Hebert Law Center and the state’s only School of Veterinary Medicine. There are more than 5,000 employees with a budget of more than $1 billion on the flagship campus. 

LSU sits on more than 2,000 acres of lush landscaping along the Mississippi River. This pivotal role will lead the charge in providing a place to learn and work that is free from harassment and discrimination for all members of the LSU community. The successful candidate will be instrumental in advancing the university’s commitment to civil rights, compliance, and the well-being of students, faculty, and staff.

The Associate Vice President for Civil Rights and Title IX Coordinator will oversee the Office of Civil Rights & Title IX (OCRTIX) within the Division of Engagement, Civil Rights, and Title IX.  As a member of the core leadership team under the Vice President for Engagement, Civil Rights & Title IX, the Associate Vice President will work closely with multiple university divisions and offices and play a critical role in the Division’s Commitment to fostering an environment that embraces the active participation of all members of our campus community.  The Associate Vice President will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive policies and programs that ensure compliance with federal and state laws regarding discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct. This includes overseeing the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints and fostering an environment where all individuals are free from protected-class discrimination and harassment.

The Associate Vice President will support the health, safety, and wellness of the LSU community. The incumbent will also work to ensure prevention programming, supportive measures, and formal and informal resolutions are in place to keep students and employees connected to academics and work.  This position requires a leader with exceptional communication skills, the ability to handle complex and sensitive issues, and a deep commitment to fostering a campus culture where all Tigers can thrive and succeed.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of leadership in Civil Rights and Title IX administration, with experience in higher education settings preferred. They will possess the ability to work independently and collaboratively, lead dynamic teams, exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality and discretion in all matters.

This position will be a direct report to the Vice President for Engagement, Civil Rights & Title IX.

This position will supervise and oversee a team of professionals, including case managers, investigators, and deputy coordinators.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic vision for Civil Rights and Title IX initiatives across the LSU system
  • Serve as the central resource for issues related to protected class discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct
  • Ensure compliance with Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Power-based Violence (PBV), and other relevant federal and state regulations
  • Lead campus efforts regarding current and emerging regulatory obligations regarding all forms of discrimination and develop plans of action for remaining in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and other governing agencies' requi
