In alignment with our Strategic Call to Action, the Student Access and Achievement Program supports various school-based acceleration and enrichment programs offered during the school day, after school hours, and beyond the school year. The goal of Student Access and Achievement is to provide support for our school system’s efforts to accelerate the academic achievement of all students, especially Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, international, and English Language Learners.

DESCRIPTION

Working under the supervision of the principal or assistant principal, with leadership and guidance from the Hispanic Achievement Program Supervisor of the Office of Student Access and Achievement, the Family Spanish Language Interpreter provides assistance and support to school staff to establish home school partnerships and school-based family involvement. The position communicates effectively with families about school programs, activities, and academic resources.

ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

• Possess an awareness of the vision, mission and goals of the Howard County Public School System’s Strategic Call to Action.
• Possess an awareness of the HCPSS Policy 10000: Student, Parent, Family, and Community Engagement.
• Actively support and facilitate home and school communication.
• Communicate and collaborate with school staff and central office staff to share information about programs and services that support students and their families.
• Encourage family members to participate on school-based committees and programs.
• Support family input in engagement activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all of the qualifications listed below to be considered for the vacancy.

Education:

High school diploma or GED equivalency certificate. (Must scan and upload diploma or official transcript to the online application). Foreign credentials must be evaluated by an MSDE approved organization.

Experience:

• Experience in a K-12 educational setting and working with diverse populations is desired but not required.
• Fluent written and oral communication skills in English and in Spanish
• Experience working with Hispanic families in the United States
