Associate Director, Financial Planning & Analysis - Research & Development Division Finance
This position operates under the guidance of the Finance Director who supports Discovery, Preclinical and Translational Medicine (“DPTM”) and support two key areas, Discovery Chemistry and Discovery Biologics. The position will assist these clients through development of financial, strategic, and operational plans and deployment of resources against critical business drivers, including annual functional objectives and long-term strategic goals. The position will also support various key initiatives and ad hoc projects.
Key responsibilities include:
Developing strong relationships with key business clients to enable an active role as a business partner and advisor
Facilitating the development, execution, and analysis of strategy and business plans
Developing expense & capital budgets, quarterly forecasts, and long-range operating plans that enable clients to meet their goals and achieve broader organizational targets
Ensuring effective resource utilization with a specific focus on internal headcount and external sourcing
Performing monthly close tasks, including preparing journal entries, reviewing actual results, providing variance commentary, analyzing spending trends, and proposing any corrective actions as necessary.
Developing ad hoc analyses, processes, and tools in support of change initiatives and other business needs
Developing strong relationships with key partners including IT, Project Management, Human Resources, Procurement, and broader Finance to ensure coordinated planning and execution of client area priorities
In this role, the candidate should expect to:
Gain end-to-end exposure to the drug development process and the Research & Development pipeline while gaining relevant experience supporting DPTM;
Influence and impact clients by helping to navigate a world of almost limitless scientific opportunities but with limited financial resources;
Further develop creative thinking and problem-solving skills;
Gain experience in change management, project management;
Increase personal network through engagement with other key business partners (IT, Project Management, Human Resources, Procurement, etc.).
Travel: Limited to no travel in the job unless deemed important by the business or clients.
Position Qualifications:
Education Minimum Requirement:
Minimum: B.A./B.S., preferably in Business, Finance, Science or Engineering
Preferred: MBA/CPA or other M.A./M.S./Doctorate in Business, Finance, Science or Engineering
Required Experience and Skills:
Minimum of 5 years in operations or Finance
Strong financial acumen
Proactive approach to problem-solving
Sound and balanced judgment, with the ability to assess and handle risk
Results and process-driven orientation
Passion and intellectual curiosity with respect to research & development
Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a challenging and complex environment.
Demonstrated ability to influence, build and maintain diverse client and peer relationships
Excellent communication skills
Strong computer skills, especially working with Excel and PowerPoint
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Has supported large organization change initiatives
SAP and BPC
