About the role

The Associate Researcher I will support research projects focused on stem cell disease modeling, gene engineering, and molecular/cellular biology. The individual will work closely with laboratory investigators and trainees to perform routine and advanced experimental procedures, maintain laboratory operations, and assist with data collection and analysis.

  • Maintenance, expansion, quality control, and differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and neuronal cultures.
  • Performing gene engineering experiments, including CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, cloning, transfection, lentiviral production, and validation of engineered cell lines.
  • Conducting molecular biology experiments, including RNA extraction, qPCR, PCR, western blotting, immunocytochemistry, and protein/RNA analyses.
  • Performing cellular and biochemical assays to characterize disease phenotypes and evaluate experimental outcomes.
  • Assisting with experimental design, data collection, record keeping, and analysis of research results.
  • Preparing reagents, maintaining laboratory inventories, ordering supplies, and ensuring proper laboratory organization and compliance with institutional safety protocols.
  • Maintaining accurate laboratory notebooks and experimental records.
  • Assisting in optimization and troubleshooting of experimental protocols.
  • Collaborating with other laboratory personnel on ongoing research projects and contributing to general laboratory operations.
  • Performs other related duties
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in science or related field (Biology, Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related scientific discipline) required 
  • No experience required. One year of research experience preferred.
  • Experience with human iPSC culture, neuronal differentiation, and stem cell-based disease modeling.
  • Experience with CRISPR/Cas9 genome engineering, cloning, and lentiviral techniques.
  • Familiarity with molecular and biochemical techniques including PCR, qPCR, western blotting, immunocytochemistry, and protein/RNA analyses.
  • Experience with fluorescence microscopy and image analysis software is preferred.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with ability to interpret experimental data.

 

Compensation Statement

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58,661.00 - $80,211.02 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
