Provides health services and promotes the physical well-being of students enrolled in the Early Learning Center, Pre-K program, and after-school youth programs. This position supports a safe and healthy learning environment by delivering direct nursing care, managing student health records, responding to illness and injury, and collaborating with staff and families. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provide direct nursing care to infants, toddlers, preschool, and school-age children, including first aid, illness assessment, and emergency response;
Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, parental consent, and applicable regulations;
Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including immunizations, screenings, care plans, and incident reports;
Monitor and manage chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, allergies, diabetes) and develop Individual Health Plans (IHPs) as needed;
Assess students returning from illness or injury and determine readiness to participate in school or after-school activities;
Provide health support to students participating in after-school tutoring, enrichment programs, and youth activities;
Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns, injuries, illnesses, and medication needs;
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to promote student health and safety;
Support compliance with state licensing, early childhood education, and school health requirements;
Conduct health screenings as required (vision, hearing, growth, etc.);
Assist with infection control practices, including monitoring communicable diseases and implementing prevention measures;
Provide health education to students and staff on wellness, hygiene, nutrition, and injury prevention;
Participate in emergency preparedness planning and response, including drills and crisis situations;
Other position related duties as required and assigned.

 
QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and current, unrestricted license in Texas as a Registered Nurse (RN); Current CPR and First Aid certification; Experience working with children in an early learning, school, or pediatric healthcare setting; Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable; Must be able to successfully pass a criminal history background check.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of pediatric and school nursing practices; Knowledge of early childhood development and age-appropriate health needs; Ability to assess, respond to, and manage medical situations involving children of various age groups; Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, families, and staff; Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, FERPA, and child-care licensing regulations; Skill in maintaining accurate medical records and documentation; Ability to provide health education and guidance in a child-friendly and culturally sensitive manner; Ability to work independently and exercise sound clinical judgment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds. The vision requirements include: close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
