Reports directly to the Campus Director of Nursing, the Campus Associate Director of Nursing, Academics (CADON, Academics) assists with providing leadership in managing and implementing a comprehensive pre-licensure registered nurse program at the baccalaureate level in support of university, campus, and/or departmental goals to ensure regulatory compliance, programmatic accreditation, internal consistency, and graduate outcomes that meet workplace expectations. Participates in Curriculum development and evaluation for continuous process improvements. Provides academic leadership in nursing that results in outstanding student learning outcomes and faculty development in academics and classroom management. Enables an environment that fosters creativity, responsiveness, and self-responsibility. Focuses extensively on ensuring the implementation of the academic program that leads to core nursing student persistence and graduate passage of board licensure exam (NCLEX). Collaborates with CADONs for Administration and Clinical Education to enhance the seamless student experience. Collaborates with peers serving in the same capacity at other campuses to ensure consistency of approach between all locations.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Maintains responsibility for the campus academic components of the pre-licensure BSN program.
- Oversees faculty in overall and day-to-day academic operation and guidance of didactic and laboratory assignments as well as scheduling of classes (term scheduling).
- Oversees all full-time faculty on-boarding, training, and continued development based on program philosophy, mission, goals, program and course-specific learning outcomes, campus culture, institutional strategies, and institutional policies.
- Provides for the substitution of faculty for assigned class sections and ensures department faculty office hours are maintained.
- Conducts comprehensive observations of faculty who teach theory and provides appropriate feedback or intervention in accordance with observation of performance findings.
- Collaborates with Campus Associate Director of Nursing, Clinical Education to conduct observations for faculty who teach in skills lab and simulation center; provides appropriate feedback or intervention in accordance with observation of performance findings.
- Collaborates with the Campus Associate Director of Nursing, Clinical Education in support of full time faculty assigned to a clinical assignment and adjunct faculty who teach a theory course.
- Oversees processes to allow for lead faculty to bridge theory and clinical education.
- Conducts ongoing faculty performance assessment and evaluation based on the Faculty Course Evaluation (FCE) every term and as necessary within the term.
- Supervises associates who work with students at risk for attrition or failing NCLEX.
- Communicates timely via emails, phone calls, “in person”, and regularly scheduled faculty meetings to address academic student concerns, faculty issues, and student persistence progress.
- Oversees and tracks students at risk vis-a vis letters of concern submitted by faculty, during campus weekly meetings, and other means pertaining to students at risk.
- Ascertains and monitors student projection numbers, staffing numbers, and other academic resources for upcoming terms.
- Reviews and recommends improvements and enhancements to the consistency and quality in course offerings, course/program development, and curriculum proposals.
- Promotes the development and utilization of assessment of student learning tools and resources.
- Validates that only approved course syllabi are being used by faculty.
- Collaborates with other campus team members to implement core nursing student orientation; participates in WCU student orientation.
- Advises the Campus Director of Nursing of the general effectiveness of theory and clinical academic portions of the program based on data/metrics (student outcomes).
- Provides input to annual campus nursing department budget and goals.
- Participates in University-wide committees as assigned.
- Participates in professional development and organizations in order to maintain an understanding of current ideas, research and practices. Attends meetings, workshops and seminars to enrich personal growth, knowledge and skill in management development.
- Assumes Campus Director of Nursing’s role and responsibilities in his/her absence.
