The Chapin School, an independent K-12 day school for girls located in New York City, is seeking a Varsity Swimming Head Coach for the 2025-2026 season.

Position Title: Varsity Swimming Head Coach
Under the direction of the Director of Athletics, the Varsity Swimming Head Coach will provide skill development and planning throughout the season. Candidates should have knowledge and experience within the sport and understand how to teach, mentor, and motivate student-athletes.
A Chapin athletic coach demonstrates the following knowledge, skills, abilities:
Is an effective communicator and educator who can teach tennis players of all skill levels and abilities and understands the importance of listening as a key component of teaching.
Understands the sport. Not only must they possess in-depth knowledge of fundamental skills, progressions, and strategies, but must also be able to adapt teaching instruction to all athletes.
Models professional leadership and behavior by adhering to the same rules expected of the athletes, displaying a positive attitude, and motivating and inspiring the team.
Knowledge of appropriate safety measures to ensure the well-being of student-athletes.
The Varsity Swimming Head Coach's specific duties and responsibilities will include:
4 days per week. Practices are weekdays 3:30-5:30pm with the exception of Thursday.
League Meets are generally on Fridays, between 4-6pm.
Regular-season: November 3 - February 22, 2026. No practices or meets over Thanksgiving Break (Nov 26-28) and Winter Break (Dec 19 - Jan 2).
Special events requiring additional hours and responsibilities: Pre & post-season league meetings, and NYSAIS state meets.
Must meet and submit all required certifications and documents prior to working with student-athletes (such as Concussion education, First Aid/CPR certification, etc.)
Communicate and mentor the coaching staff on a regular basis.
Communicate effectively and in a professional and timely manner with athletes, and when necessary, parents/guardians of athletes.
Assess skill level of athletes during tryouts and throughout the season.
Must care deeply about each student athlete’s experience on the team; make fair and equitable decisions about appointing lineups, strategy, practice times, support attendance policies.
Must abide by Chapin’s Coaches Handbook, Student-Athlete Handbook, Chapin’s Mission, NYSAISAA and AAIS policies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
Candidates must possess or be able to obtain First Aid and CPR certification.
Has strong tennis coaching experience with high school or college aged athletes. Experience working in a school setting and coaching female athletes is preferred.
Ability to attend team practices, meetings, and meets November - February.
