Description

Be at the forefront of change and become a part of the innovative and forward-thinking academic team at the University of Michigan-Flint’s Social Work Department in the rapidly expanding College of Health Sciences! The BSW program is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The MSW program is currently in pre-candidacy and aims to achieve Initial Accreditation by Summer 2027. This is a full-time, 12-month, hybrid position and works under the direction of the BSW and MSW Practicum Education Coordinator to support student success when preparing for, entering, and completing social work practicum at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. Involved in this position are teaching practicum content courses,  assisting with training practicum students and supervisors, identification and development of new placement sites based on the needs of the program and students, and serving as the lead liaison to practicum sites.

 

Currently, faculty in the College of Health Sciences are required to report to campus minimally two days a week. This is subject to change based on program, department, college or university needs. The College of Health Sciences is located in the William S. White Building on the beautiful UM-Flint campus.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Practicum Specialist - 25% effort

  • Provide students with weekly practicum supervision for sites without a qualified practicum instructor, ensuring compliance with university and accreditation standards.

  • Develop and co-lead workshops and trainings for practicum instructors and other practicum stakeholders – including practicum orientations and CEU workshops on clinical social work topics.

  • Assist with updating policies and procedures related to practicum education by reviewing and suggesting revisions to existing guidelines and contributing to the development of new policies that reflect best practices.

  • Collaborate with the Practicum Education Coordinator to monitor overall student performance in practicum and facilitate resolutions of student and site issues by mediating conflicts and providing resources for problem-solving when requested by practicum seminar instructor/liaison.

  • Maintain detailed records of practicum placements and communications in compliance with university and accrediting body requirements.

  • Serve as the first point of contact for practicum seminar instructors/liaisons who need support with addressing any issues that may impact successful completion of a student’s practicum experience.

  • Provide general oversight of practicum seminar instructors/liaisons to ensure effective seminar instruction and fulfillment of liaison responsibilities.

  • Assist with data collection and analysis for practicum program evaluation and improvement, including gathering feedback from students, supervisors, and site instructors.

  • Develop and maintain a resource library for practicum students and instructors, including templates, guides, and reference materials to support successful practicum experiences. 

 

Clinical Instructor or Clinical Assistant Professor - 75% effort

Teaching:

  • Serve as an instructor for practicum related courses for both BSW and MSW programs (SWR 121, SWR 360, SWR 460/461, SWR 560/561, and SWR 660/661)

  • Teach other courses in the BSW and MSW program as needed 

  • In partnership with Practicum Education Coordinator, assist with curriculum design, development, and implementation for all practicum courses

Scholarship:

  • Engages in scholarship according to the College of Health Sciences scholarship requirements for Clinical-track Faculty

Service:

  • All CHS faculty members are expected to provide service to the University, college, department, profession and the community. This includes responsibilities related to contributing to the accreditation process for both the program and the University. Consistent with the mission of CHS and the University, professional service contributions to the Flint and regional community are valued as well as national and international contributions.
