Job Description
A. Overall Purpose of the Job
This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The person in this
position will represent International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. and provide services outlined
below:
International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. is looking for an individual who is an experienced
phlebotomist to safely provide on‑site phlebotomy and specimen processing for VA Bedford beneficiaries
across inpatient, outpatient, and Emergency Department (ED) settings, including “stat,” “as soon as possible”
(ASAP), and timed collections. Ensure positive patient and specimen identification, safeguard paper and

electronic patient information, and deliver patient‑centered, professional service that meets or exceeds Clinical
and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI), Joint Commission, College of American Pathologists (CAP),
Veterans Health Administration (VHA), and VA standards set forth in the Performance Work Statement
(PWS).
B. Key Responsibilities
• Perform patient phlebotomy across inpatient, outpatient, and Emergency Department (ED) settings,
including stat, ASAP, and timed draws.
• Process specimens and prepare send‑outs in accordance with laboratory procedures.
• Positively identify patients prior to collection and specimens prior to testing or aliquoting; maintain
complete and accurate labeling.
• Safeguard electronic and paper patient information per VA privacy and security requirements.
• Identify, document, and resolve collection or processing issues; escalate per policy when required.
• Deliver patient‑centered, professional service to avoid complaints; meet Acceptable Quality Levels
(AQLs).
• Participate in continuous Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI) activities; attend
Laboratory Quality Improvement meetings and laboratory staff meetings; complete required QA/QI
documentation.
• Document care and activities in the VA Electronic Health Record (EHR) in accordance with VA policy;
refer all record‑release requests to the VA Release of Information department.
• Comply with patient‑safety and infection‑control standards; report patient‑safety events within
twenty‑four hours, using required forms and follow‑up.
• Sign in and out; ensure accurate hours reporting as directed by the Laboratory Manager or designee.
• Maintain compliance with standard infection‑control measures and Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogens training; maintain immunizations.
• Meet AQLs for positive patient and specimen identification, information security, specimen
collection/processing/send‑out preparation (errors and near‑misses), missed orders/specimens, and
complaints.
• Completes required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are
client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory
bodies.
