Job Description
AECOM is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Electrical Construction Specialist to join our team in Philadelphia, PA. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the design, analysis of DC or AC traction power systems for railways, light rail transit (LRT), or other electrified transportation networks. The candidate will work closely with experienced engineers and contribute to real-world projects, gaining practical knowledge in a dynamic and challenging environment.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Serves as a fully capable professional in the field with minimal direction
• Applies advanced knowledge to develop design procedures software and tools to facilitate high quality cost-effective technical project activities
• Develops estimates of technical efforts for projects
• Manages communication and collaboration with full design team and client
• Conducts interdisciplinary review of project deliverables and develops estimates of technical efforts for projects
• Oversees the development and implementation of technical approach and the completion of complex work which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
• Initiates and creates project designs and plans with responsibility for preparing presentation and design drawings
• Prepares designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings and working drawings
• Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment
• May oversee the work of less experienced designers
• Meets with clients and oversees all aspects of the project to ensure client needs are met
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA/BS + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to prepare design drawings and documents, technical specifications, cost estimates, proposals, calculations, and studies associated with traction power systems for both AC & DC electrified railways.
- Technical competence in all elements of transit traction power engineering
- Ability to perform project work as well as serve as a technical leader
- Ability to prepare and guide drafters/designers to prepare one-line diagrams, elementary and detailed wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling, test plans, field tests, reports, analysis, and technical studies for traction power systems.
- Ability to understand and retrieve relay settings. Ability to recommend appropriate actions to ensure compliance with all clients, local, state and federal regulations including APTA Rail Transit standards, AREMA railway standards, the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), the National Electrical Safety Code (IEEE C2), and other standards as applicable.
- Ability to communicate well with others and support business development opportunities
- Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally to all AECOM, partner, and client office locations, including project offices, if applicable
- Ability to perform site investigations and walk-downs in high-voltage substations and along electrified railroads
- 20 years of Traction Power design experience with 750 V dc third rail and overhead; 12 kV ac, 25 Hz, 2 x 12.5 kV ac, 60 Hz, 2 x 25 kV, 60 Hz with a strong focus on constructability.
- Proven track record of leading design teams and optimizing designs for construction efficiency
- Extensive experience in the execution and task leadership for electric
