Job Description:

The Diagnostics Laboratory Specialist 3 primary responsibilities will be to perform diagnostic testing primarily related to parasitology and molecular diagnostics testing in the parasitology and molecular diagnostic sections of the laboratory. The specialist is expected to have knowledge and experience in the subject matters related to the position. This includes developing, testing, reporting, recording analysis and providing interpretations to clients, government and state agencies. The incumbent will handle, process, and test specimens from all animal species. The position is allocated to be 100% for diagnostic duties in the Louisiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (LSU Diagnostics) an accredited laboratory within the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians. Duties include developing and performing, classical diagnostic testing on clinical specimens that are related to the specialty requested. Duties in this role also require preparing educational material on subject matters such as short articles for posting on websites and attendance at professional meetings for purposes of presentations and education. The diagnostic position may require working after business hours when needed and weekends.

Job Responsibilities:  

  •  50%- The incumbant will perform classical parasitology diagnostic testing on clinical specimens from companion, farm, zoo and others as needed. The candidate must have experience in the subject matter related the diagnostic testing techniques. The Diagnostic responsibilities also include performing, recording and reporting test results using the laboratory information management system( LIMS) and providing advice and consultation service to clients as needed. The position may require development and validation of new diagnostic test assays using contemporary technology. The incumbent will participate in the Improvement of the workflow of the parasitology laboratory in LADDL and participate in the offering of new test.

  • 35%-The successful incumbent will perform classical molecular diagnostic testing on clinical specimens from all species as requested. diagnostic responsibilities including performing recording and reporting test results in the laboratory information management system (LIMS), providing advice and consultation service to clients on proper test specimens and interpretation of test results. This position may require development and validation of new molecular diagnostic assays. The successful candidate will participate in the diagnostic test methods in the molecular diagnostic section of the laboratory performing diagnostic testing as needed. 

  • 10%-Assist in writing and updating Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions to reflect procedures performed in the laboratory to maintain quality assurance. Participation in the laboratory quality assurance program by training and continued improvements is required.

  • 5%- Other duties as assigned.

  

Minimum Qualifications: 

 Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 

 Master's degree in biological Science or related field; and 3+ years of experience in Parasitology and Molecular Diagnostics
