Job Duties

$5,000 Split Sign on Bonus or $10,000 Student Loan Repayment may be available for eligible new hires.

Serves as Mental Health Department Head for all matters relating to mental health services at the institution. Acts as a liaison with the Unit Head/designee on issues related to mental health services. Provides clinical and administrative supervision to assigned staff. Oversees and directs the development, implementation and monitoring of mental health services, policies and programs at the facility. Ensures that documentation and records are maintained according to DOC and ACA standards, along with licensing regulations from DBHDS. May be involved with special units or programs. Serves as a consultant and liaison to Administration, Security, Treatment and Community Corrections staff. Provides training to clinical and non-clinical staff. Provides mental health services to inmates including crisis intervention, screening, psychological assessment and evaluation, psychoeducational services, individual and group therapy, treatment planning, and release planning under the supervision and direction of the Mental Health Clinical Supervisor. Screens, tracks and monitors inmates housed within the licensed mental health units.

Minimum Qualifications

Training and experience in the treatment of mental disorders

Demonstrated ability to develop intervention and treatment plans

Demonstrated ability to provide individual and group counseling or therapy

Considerable knowledge of psychopathology, diagnostic nomenclature, psychological theory and ethical practices

Demonstrated skill in psychological assessment including diagnostic interviewing, and report writing

Demonstrated ability to provide training to clinical and non-clinical staff

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

Additional Considerations

Graduate degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Clinical Social Work, or equivalent degree in related human services field from an accredited university or college or an equivalent combination of training and experience, with advanced coursework in mental health supporting the ability to fulfill the required tasks of a Mental Health Service Provider as mandated by the Code of Virginia.

Experience in correctional, forensic, mental health or other institutional setting

Demonstrated ability to provide clinical and administrative supervision to mental health staff

Relevant experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation

Licensed as a mental health professional and/or certified as a service provider
