Innovation Engineering Department
The Innovation Engineering team is responsible for the development of standards, templates, specifications, and owner’s requirements documents in support of Vantage’s global growth, most notably leading the Vantage prototyping effort known as OneDesign.
The team collaborates with all multi-functional teams within Vantage to drive prototypical designs for global deployment to ensure high quality, consistent product deployments in alignment with constantly evolving internal and external customer requirements. In addition to standards development, the Innovation Engineering team is responsible for leading due diligence assessment of merger and acquisition opportunity, and development of design requirements for customer build to suit opportunities.
Position Overview
Vantage is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to be part of the Global Innovation team. The ideal candidate will have a solid mechanical engineering background and experience with the design of cooling systems for mission critical facilities.
In this role, you will work alongside the Electrical and Architectural disciplines to deliver new products and improve existing products and associated standards. You will assist in developing high-level schematic system designs and specifications and collaborate with regional teams on design reviews and feedback and enable site-adapt implementations.
Knowledge of built-up mechanical rooms, packaged equipment, chilled water equipment and piping, DX systems, central utility plants, airside and water-side economization, humidity control, and value engineering as they relate to designing state-of-the-art datacenters is required. Familiarity in the areas of plumbing and fire protection design for data centers is preferred.
This can be a fully remote role based anywhere in the US. Up to 15% travel is required.
Essential Job Functions
- Lead the efforts on design of mechanical systems – CRAH/CRAC units, chiller plants and liquid cooled systems.
- Create mechanical block diagrams and single lines diagrams for mechanical system designs
- Drive program level design efforts in coordination with other disciplines to ensure a cohesive well coordinated product design is delivered to regional teams for site-adaptation.
- Create and update specifications for critical mechanical equipment.
- Collaborate with manufacturers and vendors to develop innovative mechanical solutions.
- Oversee review process of engineering studies of all types.
- Create and update standard sequence of operation.
- Collaborate with operations team as required to ensure new designs accommodate reliability and maintainability.
- Manage Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) studies and other modeling studies are required to validate design concepts.
- Create Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) calculation templates.
- Attend “First-of-Kind” FWT testing of equipment as required.
- Interface with regional SMEs to coordinate design development efforts and receive feedback on designs.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited university or college
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical systems design and construction required
- Data Center and/or Mission Critical experience is required
- Experience with NA construction markets required
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Excel, and Word
- Understanding of Revit, BIM, Navisworks and CFD modeling software environments
- Working knowledge of critical cooling infrastructure within a data center
- Well versed with all building codes and ordinances, including ASHRAE
- Plumbing and fire protection infrastructure background within a data center preferred
