Job Summary:

The Providence Center Anchor (Jim Gillen) Teen Center Peer Recovery Support Specialist works with young people who struggle with addiction by providing individual and group recovery coaching, and facilitating activities and events. This staff member is responsible to help maintain a positive community environment, in which youth and family members are able to develop recovery capital and learn about the recovery process. The Peer Recovery Support Specialist will provide skills training and will assist with resource development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide individual recovery support.

Facilitate recovery support groups with youth and family members.

Facilitate skills development, through educational training sessions.

Provide information and referrals for community based resources.

Help lead activities and events, in-house and in community settings

Ensures safety for all participants, by following policies and procedures.

Serve as advocate for program participants and assist them to develop self-advocacy skills.

Complete all required documentation clearly and on time.

Communicate effectively and respectfully with all program participants and coworkers; and with school personnel and community partners. Maintain positive relationships.

Complete all trainings as assigned.

Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

High School diploma or GED required.

RI State certified Recovery Coach or plan to complete this within first year. Understanding of community resources and recovery oriented systems of care model.

Candidate must demonstrate an understanding of, and belief in, the addiction recovery process.

Minimum of 2 years established recovery time.

Positive communication skills.

Must be 21 years old or older.

Experience working with youth and families.

Knowledge of basic crisis intervention, motivational interviewing, and solid communication skills required.

Ability to advocate for the needs of participants is required.

Must have valid driver's license, registration, current inspection and insured automobile.
