Job Description
Coffman Engineers Anchorage Office is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Discipline Engineer specializing in Industrial Automation and Control Systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing, implementing, and maintaining automation systems in industrial and utility settings. This role requires a deep understanding of control systems, networks, instrumentation, and process control / automation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and implement automation and control systems for industrial and utility applications.
- Lead and manage projects from conception through completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to specifications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and integrate automation solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and demonstrated depth of competence, serving as a valuable resource both within the local office and to others company wide.
- Conduct system analysis, troubleshooting, and optimization to improve performance and reliability.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including but not limited to design specifications, P&IDs, control philosophies, basis of design documents, control system architecture, safe charts, cause and effect matrices, instrument indices, user manuals, and maintenance procedures.
- Provide technical support, mentoring, and training to internal design team members and clients.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in industrial automation technologies and best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Registration as a Professional Electrical or Control Systems Engineer (PE).
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in industrial automation and control systems.
- Proficiency in PLC programming, SCADA systems, server, network, and software configuration, and HMI development.
- Experience with DCS systems and advanced process control.
- Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems design, critical event management, and safety requirements specification development.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity practices in industrial automation.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., NEC, ISA, IEC, API, NFPA, ANSI, IEEE).
- Strong knowledge of instrumentation, including sensors and actuators.
- Proficiency with network protocols and communication standards used in industrial automation.
- Proficiency with submittal and shop drawing reviews.
- Able to supervise, manage, review and provide commentary on the work of others.
- Able to travel to project sites, client offices or to coordinate with client’s onsite team members as needed.
- Able to lead project meetings with clients and project team members to define project objectives and coordinate design aspects with other disciplines.
- Able to develop accurate Industrial Automation and Control System scopes of work, including manhour estimates and proposals.
- Experience with total installed cost (TIC) development for electrical and control systems.
- Experience providing Owner’s Engineering services.
