We're Hiring: Senior Public Event Manager
Location: Indianapolis Zoo - Full-time
Are you a dynamic event manager with a passion for wildlife conservation? The Indianapolis Zoo is looking for a Senior Public Event Manager to lead our public event team and drive event promotion and management. As part of the Public Event team, this role is instrumental in promoting the Zoo's mission to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. You'll plan and implement Zoo events - including xZOOberance, ZooBoo, and Christmas at the Zoo (CATZ).
What You'll Do
- Serves as a key member of the Zoo's public event team. Responsible for communicating all relevant information and event details to other Zoo departments.
- Works closely with the event consultant to grow and expand public events at the Zoo.
- Supervises, trains, mentors and provides direction to the public event specialist and public event maintenance technician.
- Directly responsible for planning and implementation of event details for xZOOberance, Halloween ZooBoo and Christmas at the Zoo, including contracting, supervising and coordinating vendors involved in set-up and tear down of buildings and decor for each event.
- Will be required, as needed, to be present at public events on occasion and during peak event needs to ensure event implementation and guest satisfaction.
- Oversees all other public events designed to drive Zoo attendance including the concert series, Zoopolis 500, MLK Day and other events as they are developed.
- Prepares all public event and program recaps, including ROI, attendance, expense and revenue analysis after each event.
- Works closely with third party vendor(s) responsible for setup and tear down of public events. Implements and coordinates contractual arrangements with public event third party vendor(s).
What We're Looking For
- Minimum of 3 years, 5 years preferred, work experience in event management and implementation, project analysis, and budgeting.
- Ability to supervise full-time, part time and seasonal employees, and volunteers.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task, handle high pressure situations and meet deadlines.
- Computer and typing/keyboarding abilities required. Good working knowledge of Outlook, Excel, Word.
- Ability to do financial analysis using Excel Spreadsheets to do event recaps and show ROI.
- Good public speaking/presentation skills.
- Familiarity with the Zoo's mission and enthusiasm for wildlife conservation.
