About the role

Overview

Under the general direction of the Director of Administration or designee, the Business Operations Manager provides oversight, management and analysis of the department's golf course operations at both William J. Devine and George Wright golf courses.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Human Resource liaison for the Golf Courses on all personnel issues, working closely with Parks Department Human Resource staff. 
  • Oversee the monthly and annual budgeting processes of the golf course. 
  • Oversee all contract procedures of the golf courses, including direction to golf staff on funding availability and procurement procedures. 
  • Responsible for all financial activity at golf course including annual budgeting, revenue collection and recording, monthly bank reconciliations, monthly reporting, monthly tax reporting and all account payable activities. 
  • Responsible for all vendor management on any customer service issues related to the financial activities and contract management of the golf courses. 
  • Provide statistical reports, charts and data analysis on all golf course related business activity.
  • Assist the Golf Professional(s) in managing the food operation at the golf course including event and tournament bookings, maintaining an online calendar of events and monthly revenue collection. 
  • Assist the Golf Professionals in managing the golf course technology and application including the golf course website.

  • Provide financial and/or management analysis, statistical analysis and research as necessary. 
  • Serve as liaison to other city financial agencies as needed. 
  • Act on behalf of the Director of Administration and/or Finance Director, as needed, in all essential areas of budget and finance related to the golf courses. 
  • Assist in year-end audit and tax preparation for the golf courses.
  • Perform related work as required. 

 

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

  • Applicants must have four (4) years managerial experience in administration and finance management. Familiarity with rules and regulations governing non-profit, 501(c)(3) organizations or golf course operations is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience. 
  • The successful candidate must have proven and successful experience in most or all of the following areas: human resource, budget management and projection, contract management, public sector procurement/purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial analysis and reporting, business analysis and vendor relations.
  • Knowledge of budget preparations and procedures, budget and accounting software, Microsoft Word, Excel and Access strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic work environment.
  • Proven organizational skills as well as excellent oral and written communications skills are required. 
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, Chinese and Vietnamese).
