6 month internship: Evaluation and Implementation of a Container Registry Management System 

 

Context: 

 

As part of our activities, we are looking to evaluate existing container registry solutions to find the one that best meets our needs. Currently, we use Azure Container Registry, but this solution does not fully meet our requirements. 

 

Internship Objective: 

 

The goal of this internship is to analyze the various available container registry solutions and propose one that supports fine-grained permission management, OIDC authentication without persistent tokens, and the ability to manage multi-level repositories. 

 

Tasks: 

 

Evaluate various container registries compatible with OCI specifications. 

 

Identify registries that support sub-repositories management (e.g., ansys/foo/bar). 

 

Test solutions that offer granular access controls and fine-grained user permissions. 

 

Research registries that support OIDC authentication without the need to store authentication tokens. 

 

Analyze advanced features like automatic repository creation, metrics management (Prometheus/OpenTelemetry), garbage collection of unused images, and high availability. 

 

Propose a solution considering bonus features like geo-replication, immutable tags management, and the ability to host generic artifacts.
