We are seeking a professional like you to be part of the Automation, Controls and Electrical team within the North American (NA) Technical Expertise department. You will provide instrument & controls engineering expertise in support of small, mid & large capital projects, site business units/OD’s, and for specific safety related initiatives. In this role, you will work closely with other discipline engineers, project managers, plant operations and maintenance personnel to provide complex engineering solutions. You will be responsible for providing this expertise for new chemical plants, research laboratories, major expansions, debottlenecking of existing plants and infrastructure facilities. You will also provide technical direction for other I&C engineers and designers (in-house and/or third-party engineering firms) during all phases of projects and/or special efforts. You will be responsible for reviewing design documentation submittals and understanding how the designs interact with manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability, and develop best practices within the production process. Your participation in teams, internal committees, and ad hoc assignments to represent the discipline are key to success.
As a Instrument/Control SIS Reliability Staff Engineer, you create chemistry by...
- Demonstrating your understanding of Instrumentation, Process Control, Fire & Gas, Safety Instrumented Systems (Triconex/HIMA), Distributed Control Systems (i.e. Foxboro/DeltaV/ABB), PLC’s (i.e. Allen Bradley), & Burner Management Systems, while providing technical direction, advice and consultancy support on related topics.
- Providing oversight and technical support to Capital projects during FEL, detailed design & engineering, construction, and commissioning. Designing basis development, instrument & control manhour consolidation, material take offs, etc. Reviewing and sign-off on Instrument & Control IFA/FC Packages. SIS scoping and SRS development. Supporting FAT/SAT Commissioning & Startup activities.
- Supervising the design, specification, configuration, application, installation, & testing of Safety Instrumented Systems.
- Diagnosing I/O related issues within PLC and remote IO systems, including Charms IO, etc.
- Working collaboratively with Process & Operations Engineers and Maintenance personnel. This includes overseeing and/or leading SIS training periodically, SIS dossier oversight, SRS and proof test procedure development support.
- Understanding local and national safety standards and collaborate in hazard risk analysis and safety assessments (PHA’s, LOPA’s, HAZOP’s, and Functional Safety Assessments / Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Studies.).
- Maintaining instrumentation, functional design specifications / documents and P&I diagrams, control panel layout and design, etc.
- Applying appropriate reliability tools to drive improvements, optimize costs, and improve Asset Effectiveness (i.e. Equipment Strategies, Criticality Assessment, Bad Actor Program, FMEA, RBI, RBM, RCM, Reliability Roadmap).
- Being responsible for the interpretation and adherence to BASF Technical Standards, industry standards (ISA 84 or IEC 61508/11, NEC, NFPA), and applicable regulatory and design codes, as applicable to specific projects and/or site initiatives.
If you have...
- A Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 10 + years of experience woring in discipline engineering.
- Well-developed troubleshooting skills in instrumentation.
- The ability to interact and communicate at a high level in manufacturing technical discussions.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety.
- In-depth technical experience
