Role Overview: As the Regional Expansion Editor, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of local journalism for MySA.com by overseeing and expanding our coverage of South Texas, the Hill Country, and neighboring areas like Boerne, Fredericksburg, New Braunfels, and San Marcos. You won’t just be managing the team—you’ll also dive into reporting, working closely with reporters to create timely, high-impact stories that resonate with a digital-first audience. This role is perfect for someone eager to take on both strategic leadership and creative storytelling, all while ensuring that MySA.com is the go-to source for regional news.

What will you do?

• Regional Impact: You'll be at the forefront of expanding MySA's footprint across South Texas, connecting communities with the news that matters most to them.
• Lead and Inspire: Work alongside a dedicated team of reporters, helping them shape stories, refine ideas, and improve their craft. Your leadership will directly influence the quality and reach of our journalism.
• Create Stories: Not only will you guide reporters, but you'll also have the opportunity to roll up your sleeves and report on compelling stories that draw traffic and captivate readers.
• Digital-First Focus: You’ll lead coverage with a digital-first approach, using metrics and audience feedback to ensure content connects and drives engagement.

What will it take to be successful?

• Team Leadership & Story Development: Oversee reporters covering various regions. Collaborate with them to generate fresh story ideas, provide thoughtful guidance, and ensure that all stories are well-researched, engaging, and accurate.
• Hands-On Editing & Publishing: Quickly and efficiently edit stories for style and accuracy, ensuring every piece meets our high standards. You’ll also make real-time decisions on story posting to maximize audience impact.
• Creative Storytelling: In addition to managing reporters, you’ll contribute your own writing and reporting, producing stories that reflect your deep understanding of the region’s communities.
• Audience Engagement: Monitor audience metrics to gauge the effectiveness of coverage and provide actionable feedback to reporters. Your goal is to drive reader engagement and foster a loyal digital audience.
• A growing portfolio of high-quality, impactful stories that drive digital visits and subscriptions.
• A team of reporters producing timely, engaging journalism that resonates with local audiences.
• Seamless collaboration across the newsroom, resulting in outstanding digital coverage that’s both urgent and relevant.

What we’re looking for:

• A minimum of two years of editing experience with a keen eye for detail, accuracy, and digital optimization.
• At least two years of experience as a reporter, with a proven ability to write compelling, traffic-driving stories.
• A bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, constructive feedback to a team.
• Passion for local journalism and knowledge of the South Texas and Hill Country regions is a huge plus!
