Department Summary

The Department of Clinical Education within the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine coordinates all clinical education experiences for osteopathic medicine students.

Position Overview

The Assistant Director of Operations and Clinical Education will oversee a staff of 5 Clerkship Coordinators and 1 Academic Program Specialist who now report to the Executive Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four (4) years related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of best practices and standards in clinical education, including curriculum design, student assessment, and clinical training methodologies.
  • Understanding of the structure of healthcare facilities, clinical rotations, and healthcare delivery systems, and their relationship to academic curricula.
  • Familiarity with principles of student development, advising, and coaching in clinical education settings.
  • In-depth knowledge of clinical tracking systems, databases, and program software used to track student rotations, evaluations, and progress.
  • Awareness of accreditation standards, compliance regulations, and institutional policies related to clinical education in health sciences.
  • Strong organizational skills to plan, implement, and monitor multiple aspects of the clinical education program, such as clerkship lotteries and curriculum coordination.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, faculty, clinical staff, and external partners.
  • Ability to analyze issues and challenges related to clinical rotations, and develop solutions to optimize the student experience.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously while ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.
  • Ability to lead and collaborate with a team of Clinical Education staff.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree required, Master’s Degree (preferred) in Nursing, Public Health, Education or related field and 4 years of related supervisory/leadership experience.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
