About the Position
The Olympia Community Planning and Development Department is looking for a positive, proactive, and helpful, customer service-focused individual to join our team for a one-year project funded position. The City's Parking Services Program manages our parking system to encourage turnover in spaces and help drivers choose the option that best fits their needs. Parking Services Field Representatives are downtown ambassadors, educating and assisting citizens toward a positive parking experience.Β This is an AFSCME represented position.

Essential Functions
The information contained in this classification specification is a representative sample of essential and other functions performed in this classification. Specific essential functions are identified for position recruitment or other administrative procedures.
Examples of Duties: Any combination of the following duties may be assigned.
Enforcement:
1. Responsible to patrol regulated parking areas, enforce parking laws and ordinances.
2. Issue traffic tickets for parking violations with a hand-held computer.
3. Appear in court and/or prepare affidavits.
4. Complete required record keeping such as maintenance logs, parking permits and receipt of money.
5. Prepare daily and monthly reports of parking violations.
6. Download and upload handheld information via main computer.
7. Participate in the development, creation, and implementation of new programs and projects.
8. Complete special field investigations of complaints regarding improper parking meter operation, signage, etc.
9. Punctual, regular and reliable attendance is essential for successful job performance.
Public Service:
1. Interact and build relationships with customers; have continuous, regular communication with customers.
2. Assist the general public in answering a variety of questions in the field and office, in- person and on the telephone.
3. Resolve customer issues in the field, within a prescribed set of parameters.
4. Promote Parking Services programs.
5. Provide high quality information to customers about parking before and after they receive a ticket (i.e. parking options and choices).
6. Attend association and neighborhood meetings and special events.
7. Conduct "walkabouts," visiting local businesses sharing parking information, promoting parking services, and resolving issues.
8. Serve as primary conduit of information between users of downtown and the City.
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
1. Ability to learn parking regulations and ordinances and program policies and procedures.
2. Ability to learn geography of assigned area to include City street names, buildings and locations; ability to read maps.
3. Knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in repairing small mechanisms such as clocks and coin operated devices.
4. Knowledge of basic computer functioning and operation.
5. Skill in using Microsoft or similar products and successfully navigating in a Window-based environment.
6. Skill in troubleshooting problems and possible malfunctions of equipment.
7. Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing with a variety of individuals in routine as well as challenging or emotionally charged situations with tact and diplomacy.
8. Skill in diffusing confrontational or hostile situations.
9. Ability to defuse difficult situations.
10. Ability to interpret, apply and articulate the purpose and content of codes, rules, polices, procedures, and programs.
11. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, employees, and customers.
12. Ability to walk for the majority of each work day.
13. Ability to learn and utilize related computer hardware and software programs.
