What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the all-electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Liaison between Vehicle Crash Safety, Product Management, Government and Regulatory Affairs, Body Systems, Energy Systems, and Assembly on technical issues concerning vehicle crash performance
  • Predict and assess the crush modes and zones of the major components of forward model vehicles
  • Analyze component designs and propose actions to optimize the overall vehicle crush characteristics and occupant injury performance. Interface with responsible design/release engineering activities to incorporate the proposed design actions to deliver cost/weight efficiency while meeting all crash targets
  • Identify and develop new design concepts directed towards improving crashworthiness and provide leadership and support in the timely implementation of these concepts
  • Analyze competitive systems and advanced design concepts to keep informed of emerging developments
  • Lead effort to establish crash related competitive benchmark information for package and structure and use the results to improve design for optimized performance and promote reduction of testing and prototype usage
  • Promote the application of state-of-the-art structural and occupant crash modeling tools, testing methods, and statistical techniques to ensure the optimization of vehicle designs to meet crash performance objectives while minimizing testing
  • Provide training, mentoring and consulting to department engineers, supervisors, and managers

Location & Travel Expectations: the responsibilities of this role require daily attendance at the office for in-person meetings and events. Hybrid working for personal flexibility is possible with limitations per week. The role will be based at a Scout Motors location in Novi, MI. Applicants should expect that the role will require national and international business travel on behalf of the company.

What you’ll bring

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, systems engineering, or a relevant field.
  • 15+ years of experience in developing and integrating Vehicle safety systems, experience in body structures, electrical and mechanical areas and relevant automotive assignments, covering all phases of product development (design, test, and launch).
  • Strong understanding of vehicle safety principles, regulations, and standards.
  • Strong technical skills and expertise in Vehicle Safety, employing a 1st Principles approach to problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with computer-aided engineering (CAE) or direct experience in this field.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with individuals at all organizational levels.
