Description

The Norton Museum of Art School Programs Internship is a paid, part-time, position that provides one undergraduate, recent graduate, or graduate student the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in School and Teacher Programs in a museum while working with a team of museum professionals. Application deadline is September 6th, 2025.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the check-in and logistics of daily school tours including greeting schools at the bus drop off location, walking students into the Museum, collecting lunches and assisting with group breaks in the garden.
  • Prepare art supplies for Extended Tour art activities (art workshops).
  • Teach Extended Tours to students in the Museum’s classrooms.
  • Attend Learning and Community Engagement staff meetings.
  • Assist with planning and executing Student Art Exhibition opening night.
  • Assist with other Student Art Exhibition duties as assigned.
  • Special projects assigned based on the intern’s interests.
  • Other administrative tasks as needed.

Required Commitment

Internship dates are: October-December, 2025 OR October-April, 2025 (dependent on the intern’s availability, but two semesters of work are preferred). Friday morning availability preferred. Part-time 16 hours each week. Office hours are flexible to accommodate the candidate’s schedule, but must be available at least two mornings a week.

Eligibility and Terms

The program is open to college juniors, seniors, recent graduates, and graduate students. Preferred majors include art history, art education, education or communications with a strong interest in non-profit organizations and the arts.

Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm for working with K-12 students and teachers
  • Interest in art education and/or teaching; previous art classroom experience a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Detail-orientated and organized
  • Ability to maintain a professional and courteous manner in a fast-paced environment
