Associated PressAbout the role
The Associated Press is an independent global news organization dedicated to factual reporting. Founded in 1846, AP today remains the most trusted source of fast, accurate, unbiased news in all formats and the essential provider of the technology and services vital to the news business. More than half the world's population sees AP journalism every day.
The Associated Press seeks a talented and ambitious college student or recent graduate to work as a sportswriter based in Paris for 20 weeks in summer 2024. In this role, you will help cover sports events in the region, including the events leading up to the 2024 Summer Olympics. You will write game stories, news and enterprise, working closely with other departments and formats to pursue distinctive, crossover stories that explore the intersections of sports and other beats. You will also work with AP’s digital and social media team to produce Sports content for our platforms.
This is a full-time, paid, working experience where you will join news gathering and production colleagues to create and craft our daily all-formats news report. We are seeking strong storytellers who demonstrate solid news judgment and are eager to put what they have learned in an academic environment into professional practice. You will be paired with a mentor/coach who will offer training and guidance throughout the program. Women and people of color are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications: You should be creative, innovative and agile. Skills in more than one format (text, photo, video, audio and data) are a plus. Strong interpersonal, organizational and planning skills are a must, as is a deep interest in the news and current affairs.
We are seeking candidates who have demonstrated the potential to work effectively in a deadline-driven, dynamic and competitive newsroom and field environment. You should have experience working in college media, as a freelancer or as an intern for another news organization. You must be a self-starter with the ability to collaborate effectively and inclusively on teams.
We will consider strong candidates who do not meet every listed qualification. You may use your cover letter to describe the unique qualifications you would bring to this role.
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be recent graduates, current full-time students within two years of earning an undergraduate degree (juniors and seniors) or current full-time graduate students.
- You must have authorization to work in France for six months in 2024.
- You should have advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English and French; you will write in English and report in French. Professional competency in an additional language is a plus.
Application Deadline: March 21, 2024 @ 11:59 PM ET
