Position Summary
The Peer Specialist is a vital member of the Kirkwood Recovery treatment team, providing lived-experience support and guidance to individuals in our ASAM 3.5 residential program. This role focuses on engaging clients in recovery-oriented services, fostering hope, and modeling positive recovery behaviors. The Peer Specialist works alongside clinical staff to support client goals, encourage participation in treatment, and strengthen long-term recovery skills.
Key Responsibilities
· Serve as a role model by sharing personal recovery experiences and demonstrating healthy coping strategies.
· Provide one-on-one and group peer support to residents in the 3.5 program.
· Support residents in developing individualized recovery plans in collaboration with clinical staff.
· Encourage active participation in therapeutic, educational, and community recovery activities.
· Assist residents in identifying strengths, building resilience, and accessing community resources.
· Document peer support services provided in accordance with agency and regulatory standards.
· Work collaboratively with counselors, case managers, medical staff, and program leadership.
· Promote a recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and culturally competent environment.
· Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and supervision sessions as required.
· Uphold confidentiality, professional ethics, and compliance with program policies.
· Facilitate Recovery Groups as needed within the clinical setting and with oversight from clinical supervisors.
Qualifications
Qualifications
· Must identify as a person with lived experience of substance use and sustained recovery.
· Peer Recovery Specialist Certification Preferred (or willingness to obtain within required timeframe).
· High school diploma or equivalent (some college or training preferred).
· Experience working or volunteering in behavioral health, recovery, or social services settings is a plus.
· Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
· Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries while providing peer support.
· Commitment to the values of recovery, empowerment, and client-centered care.
Work Environment
· Residential treatment setting, requiring flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
· Collaborative team-based environment with a focus on recovery support.
