The Maine Department of Environmental Protection is seeking candidates for a limited period Environmental Specialist III position vacancy out of Augusta, Maine.

 

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: The primary responsibilities of this position include: 

  • Assisting with the coordination of the Nonpoint Source (NPS) Training and Resource Center
  • Providing NPS prevention training for contractors, municipal officials, and other target groups to educate target audiences on resilient infrastructure, nature-based solutions, stormwater management, and land use best management practices
  • Developing additional or new training courses as directed by the Training Center
  • Reviewing and approving third-party training opportunities within the mission of the Nonpoint Source Training and Resource Center, and through input from stakeholders.

This position will also assist in presenting Erosion/Sediment Control classes as well as supporting the continuation of education classes for Contractors to meet demand. The selected candidate will help to develop video and online companion materials for “OUR SHORE,” as well as help to set-up community-based forums and other outreach activities aimed at increasing awareness of nature-based shoreline stabilization in Maine using “OUR SHORE” guidance.

There will be hybrid remote/in-person opportunities with this position after management approval and following the DEP Telework Policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A six (6) year combination of education and/or experience in environmental, biological, physical science, or engineering which includes two (2) years of environmental experience. Qualifying education must include at least 15 credit hours of science or engineering coursework from an accredited educational institution.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • Ability to coordinate multiple trainings and workshops for various community stewards.
  • Ability to implement nature-based design projects on public lands.
  • Knowledge of Erosion & Sedimentation Control Cerifications and Advanced training certifications.
  • Knowledge of stormwater management, land use best management practices, and Nonpoint Source (NPS) pollution.
