Job Description

Medical Laboratory Scientist I - Sendouts - Lab Outreach

Full-Time; Evening; 2:30pm-11pm + Every Other Weekend

Overview 

The Medical Laboratory Scientist I (MLS I) role is for new graduates with an Associate degree in MLT or related field or completion of Military Laboratory Technician program with applicable clinical experience.   

Under direct supervision, performs waived, moderate and high complexity testing. Maintains proper records and utilizes resources to generate acceptable test results.  Functions effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.   

Key Responsibilities 

  1. Performs waived, moderate and high complexity testing using manual and automated processes.  Complies with all regulatory agency guidelines (CLIA 88, TJC, CAP, FDA, etc.) and addresses concerns as needed. 
  2. Identifies and resolves analytical problems, troubleshoots equipment issues and takes corrective action in evaluating testing procedures, patient results and specimen integrity; seeks guidance when necessary. 
  3. Reviews and records quality control and determines the acceptability of testing, patient results, and instrument function by applying the principles of QA/QC daily. 
  4. Responds to clinical and customer concerns, resolves customer issues in a confidential manner, employing integrity and discretion: seeks guidance when necessary. 
  5. Attends mandatory education, training, and in-service meetings specific to department. 
  6. Performs duties as assigned related to the job description. 

Qualifications

Education:  Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, basic sciences or related field required or completion of Military Laboratory Technician program.  

Experience:  No experience required; 1 year of clinical laboratory experience preferred.  

Licensure/Certifications:  ASCP or equivalent preferred.
