Summary
The City of Roanoke is seeking an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) to perform technical work providing human health emergency medical services. Duties are performed under emergency conditions and frequently involve considerable personal hazard. Responds to fire alarms and emergency medical calls. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Associate degree with courses in emergency health sciences or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid appropriate drivers license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. MUST BE 18 YEARS OLD and submit to a drug screening test. Must possess Commonwealth of Virginia EMT certification and EVOC. Must possess and maintain required certifications appropriate to duty assignment within the Fire/EMS department. Bilingual, Spanish/English speakers encouraged to apply. Must be able to work 8 am to 8 pm, average 3-4 days per month. This is a part time position with no city benefits.Examples of duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assists in maintaining equipment inventory on emergency vehicles.
Maintains vehicles in a clean and working order
Performs daily routine station and grounds cleaning and assigned maintenance as directed
Responds to fire alarms and emergency medical calls
Drives and operates fire and EMS apparatus on non-emergency and emergency incidents
Provides patient care and administers basic life support techniques and treatment
Prepares a variety of reports and complete records as required
Assists in activities not directly related to emergencies (i.e. public standby situations)
Must be able to work 8 am to 8 pm, average 3-4 days per month.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Associate degree with courses in emergency health sciences or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be at least 19 years old.

LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
