Water Utility Worker - Water Plant

This position is a great entry-level position working in the City’s water treatment plant and water distribution system. Duties include general maintenance of treatment facilities and equipment including basic carpentry, painting, plumbing and mechanical repair work and water main repair.
Primary duties include:
- Diagnose equipment problems and determine proper remedial action.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain a wide variety of pumps, motors, air compressors, piping and related utility plant equipment.
- Maintain records of equipment and repair work.
The ideal candidate has:
- Excellent customer service skills
- The ability to problem-solve and exercise sound judgment
- An aptitude for technology or a willingness to learn
- The ability to work independently or as a team
Minimum qualifications: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Must be insurable within the standards set by the City of Topeka’s insurance carrier and possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license. Experience in the construction, maintenance and repair of water treatment plants and facilities or an equivalent combination of training and experience is preferred.
$20.14 per hour.
