Sr. Solutions Engineer

Position Title: Global Solutions Engineer

Your role 

This is your opportunity to take ownership of a high-impact, high-visibility leadership position with the largest wholesale data center provider in the world. You'll enjoy working directly with our customers providing customer-facing technical leadership to support customer acquisition, opportunity discovery, due diligence reviews, engineered solution designs, contract creation, and deployment fulfillment. You'll have cradle to grave influence as you serve as the liaison between internal Digital Realty groups and our customers, ensuring opportunities are moving as planned and the customer is well taken care of. This is a wide-reaching role providing ample opportunity to shine as you support and interact with the company’s key customers.

 

What you’ll do 

· Own and direct technical engagement with key customers, including leading building and site tours, sales calls, technical proposal generation, opportunity pricing, contract negotiations, and deployment scopes-of-work.

· Serve as the 'hub' for technical & engineering communications.

· Discover and evaluate customer needs and then design and present fit-for-purpose solutions.

· Engineer and cost fit-for-purpose solutions for large customer opportunities.

· Oversee and complete all technical aspects of customer RFIs / RFPs / RFQs.

· Act as a subject matter expert related to the infrastructure, building systems, and white-space fit-out associated within our data center portfolio.

· Act as a customer advocate resource and provide technical information, support, and guidance to Digital Realty’s internal Design & Construction, Implementation, Operations, and Portfolio Management teams during bid, construction and commissioning processes.

· Lead technical account planning and participate in sales forecasting, opportunity pipeline reviews, and market analysis.

· Liaise with the professional community, including attending technical forums and industry events.

· Monitor and evaluate technical trends within the industry for target customer accounts.

 

 

What you’ll need

Requirements

· 5+ years of relevant experience working with a data center or colocation provider, OR 8+ years working in telecommunications, networking, hosting, high tech facilities, mission-critical construction, engineering consulting, or another related field.

· The ability to work directly with customers to understand their needs, then work cross-functionally with multiple internal stakeholders to provide a solution including deployment configuration, electrical design, cooling strategies, and connectivity.

· Exceptional interpersonal and polished presentation skills and the ability to speak intelligently with sophisticated customers, senior leadership, A/E & MEP designers, construction contractors, project managers, and in-industry consultants.

· Technical savvy and a solid understanding of at least one of the following: Networking, primary & stand-by electrical power distribution systems, mechanical cooling systems, electrical and/or mechanical monitoring & controls systems, or mission-critical building & infrastructure design.

· Proven customer opportunity management skills including experience with technical sales engagements and account management.

· The ability to work well under pressure and take a proactive approach in handling issues, providing solutions and/or acting as a change manager.

· Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and openness to new ideas and procedures.

· Expert application software skills including MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, AutoCAD, and Adobe Acrobat.

· A bachelor's degree, ideally in Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice-to-haves

· Experience leading data center / telecom projects, including coordinating design, subcontractors and construction.

· Experience estimating and tracking costs associated with client installations or similar projects.

· Familiarity with electric utility and/or telecom carrier operations / business models.

· Familiarity with electronic security and CCTV systems

· Knowledge of all applicable rules, laws and ordinances in performing data center or mission critical projects including building codes, electrical codes, and fire/life safety codes.
