Nursing Success Coach - Hamilton County Campus

About the role

The Success Coach will deliver holistic, intrusive coaching to students in the School of Nursing programs through degree completion. This is a student-facing position and requires excellent interpersonal skills, content knowledge, and a passion for supporting students to increase student retention, success and completion. The coach will be a primary point of contact for students in the School of Nursing programs. The coach will facilitate tutoring, serve as students’ primary academic advisor and provide other retention support to nursing students. This position will be part of the Student Success team, and serve as a liaison to the Dean of the School of Nursing. This position reports to the Director of Academic Advising.

Major Responsibilities:

Customer Service:

  • Demonstrate a strong customer service and/or student advocacy through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem solving and desire to identify and support student success.
  • Engage in behaviors that create an inclusive environment in which all people are valued and supported.
  • Go beyond the easiest surface answer for a student and get to the root cause of the problem, question or issue to solve it as quickly and professionally as possible.
  • Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations.

Student Support

  • Demonstrate developmental academic advising that assists students in clarifying personal, academic and career goals through the use of appropriate student development, human development and student learning theories.
  • Maintain knowledge of the institution’s academic programs, curriculum, practices, and academic and student policies.
  • Maintain student advising records in compliance with the College and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Assist students with setting goals and identifying, planning for, and overcoming potential obstacles and defining steps in education and career planning.
  • Build rapport and trust with students to support successful goal completion.
  • Communicate with students regularly to form a trusting & supportive coaching relationship; this communication includes:
    • Individual meetings
    • Group meetings
    • Phone/video calls
    • Email, text, etc., communication
    • Discussion boards and engagement through the college’s Learning Management System
  • Monitor academic progress, providing encouragement and support necessary to enable students to successfully complete their nursing clinical program and prepare for the NCLEX examination.
  • Use the college’s caseload management system/early alert platform to track student progress, and refer to campus resources.
  • Maintain accurate tracking data for each assigned student in the caseload management system; this includes tracking all coaching sessions (attended and non-attended), phone calls, text messages, and emails.
  • Use data to inform strategies to support and retain students in completing their intended School of Nursing program.
  • Establish working relationships with relevant campus departments to access services for students, and assist students in moving toward self-efficacy.
  • Facilitates ongoing academic skills workshops or tutoring sessions for School of Nursing students.

Leadership and Planning

  • Collaborate with all divisions: Student Success, Enrollment Services, and Academic Affairs to help ensure students are well prepared and supported from admission to completion.
  • Work closely with the Dean of the School of Nursing to implement the vision for the School of Nursing.
  • Serve as primary contact for campus offices regarding nursing student application, admissions, and nursing student service related issues.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives to improve student outcomes and student services.
  • Develop and present lessons, talks or workshops on college success skills.
  • Make presentations to various faculty, staff and student groups.
  • Participate in professional training and professional development.

Technical Support

  • Enter data and manage electronic student files to track student progress using the college’s caseload management system, student record database, and degree completion tracker.
  • Use computer to access student data and complete work assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • One year of experience in a student services capacity
