Position Overview:

  • Performs maintenance, installation and repair work on refrigeration systems, equipment and components. This work is performed under general supervision and using the tools and techniques of refrigeration technology.

Location:

  • The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Facilities Department located in Baltimore, MD.

Schedule:

  • 3:00PM – 11:30PM.  

Pay Rate:

  • Commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

Authority / Decision-Making:

  • Makes decisions based on trade practices and supervisor direction as appropriate for the scope of this position.
  • Recommends and participates in departmental HVACR operations development, improvement, and implementation as it relates to current/anticipated workload.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Trains peer and lower level positions as directed by supervisor.

Problem Solving:

  • Identifies, analyzes, diagnoses and resolves routine refrigeration equipment problems and component conditions.

Information Management:

  • Reads and interprets schematic and construction drawings, service manuals and other technical documents.
  • Follows instructions provided by blueprints, drawings, written materials, work orders and oral instruction.
  • Communicates (written and oral) with supervisor and departmental/JHM staff.
  • Assimilates JHH/departmental mission, policies and procedures as well as specific job safety aspects.

Working Conditions: 

  • Works in shop and mechanical area environments with exposure to dust, heat, cold, noise and fumes.
  • Work may be performed outdoors with exposure to extreme temperatures and other weather conditions.

  • Gets into/works within confined spaces and in awkward positions.

  • Works at heights of up to 30 feet above surface using ladders, lifts and equipment.

  • Work requires ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time.

  • Work requires ability to load/unload and transport/position tools, equipment and materials & push/pull loaded hand trucks weighing up to 75 pounds. This flexible “weight” condition does not prescribe “lifting” as a mechanism for moving equipment; therefore, it permits the supervisor/employee to determine the methodology and reasonable accommodations for “moving” such weight; otherwise, you must make clear that there is no other mechanism - & no reasonable accommodations - for “moving” the weight. 

  • Works with systems which involve risk of exposure to disease.

  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents has little likelihood of harm when established health precautions are followed.

  • Work requires the use of protective safety devices including, but not limited to, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, infection prevention apparel/apparatus, back belt.
