About the role

Position Summary: The Supervisor, MRI directs the performance of MRI exams and is responsible for the efficiency, productivity and quality of work performed by assigned technical and ancillary staff during own assigned shift.  This position is responsible for the day‐to‐day function of the MRI 3 scanners within the Robert Packer Hospital entity.  Possesses working knowledge of policies and procedures and expertise in use of all equipment in use in the MRI Department.  Responsibilities include development and implementation of procedures, and care and maintenance of the MRI equipment, and may perform all principal duties and responsibilities of an MRI Staff Technologist. 

Education, License & Cert: High school with additional 2‐year Radiology Technology Training from a JRCERT approved program. Position requires current ARRT registration and post‐primary registration in MRI.  Certified in Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider. 

Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of MRI experience.  Must have demonstrated leadership skills.  Preference will be given to individuals with supervisory experience. 

Essential Functions: 1. Provides immediate supervision to MRI staff. 2. Ensures proper quality and quantity of work done by technical and support staff, prepares daily work assignments, and reassigns personnel as required. 3. Communicates and coordinates with staff of previous and next shift regarding equipment problems, waiting patients, and other like information. 4. Functions as a liaison between physicians and support staff, explaining department procedures, resolving problems, and coordinating activities which affect patient care. Ensures all information regarding procedural or operational changes in the MRI Department are communicated to appropriate Hospital personnel. 5. Assists in developing, reviewing, and revising protocol for patient studies. 6. Performs all the duties of an MRI Staff Technologist (Certified). 7. Prepare and maintain MRI Staffing Schedule including vacations and on‐call, approving time off according to policy and procedure guidelines, distribute to staff and post on internal e‐mail. 8. Works with Radiology Manager to ensure supply availability, to maintain a minimum plus level always.  Recommends changes in inventory. 9. Reports problems in carrying out procedures caused within the department or by other departments to the Radiology Manager and Radiologist(s) on the appropriate service. Recognizes potential problems in the department involving technical and/or personnel issues and brings to the attention of the Radiology Manager as soon as possible. 10. Capable of running management reports, editing schedules, editing tech entries, reviewing clips, verifying accuracy of billing, booking exams, reviewing exams at each site. 11. Provides constructive criticism to technical staff to help develop skills. Serves as mentor and staff resource. Influences and motivates behaviors to achieve desired outcomes.  Leads by example. Assists in interviewing and recommends hiring, promotion, termination, or disciplinary action for related staff, in collaboration with Radiology Manager. Assists in Developing annual performance evaluations and competencies. 12. Supervises coordination of scheduling of add‐on outpatient exams and emergency room and in‐patient exams. Coordinating schedules with Anesthesiology, Nursing and the Arrythmia Center for anesthesia MRI exams, Pacemaker exams, and procedures requiring a nurse. 13. Continually Monitors daily workflow of MRI Department to alert Radiology Manager of potential problems and increased availability. Works in collaboration with the scheduling lead and Radiology clerical staff to optimize patient flow and influence patient satisfaction. Initiates changes of resources to match workloads as effectively as possible. 14. Responsible for overseeing and assigning all aspects of MRI Staff day‐to‐day workflow and ensures adherence to MRI Policies and Procedures. Is responsible for monitoring training of all new personnel. 15. In collaboration with the Radiology Manager, arranges technologist education to optimize MRI services and ensure proficiency among staff. Participates in teaching program of technical students (MRI) and other technologists. 16. Responsible for the MRI Safety training of local fire, police, hospital safety and security and maintenance personnel. 17. Responsible for system maintenance including arranging service time on all MRI equipment, ensures documentation of system downtime according to departmental policies.
