The Center for Cardiovascular and Chronic Care at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing is pleased to announce an opening for a Research Associate faculty position with a focus on community-based clinical trials, cardiovascular health, shared decision-making.
The Center aims to significantly improve cardiovascular health through community engagement, scientific investigation, education, and policy initiatives. The School of Nursing and the Johns Hopkins University provide a rich interdisciplinary environment with a wide variety of clinical and community partnerships, and offer an abundance of seminars, invited lectures, and opportunities for collaboration with faculty across disciplines and departments.
Responsibilities and Opportunities
Under the leadership of Dr. Cheryl Himmelfarb, the Research Associate will play a pivotal role in advancing the Center's mission by leading, developing, and evaluating innovative, theory-driven strategies to improve cardiovascular health.
The Research Associate will spearhead research initiatives focused on developing and testing theory-informed, human-centered shared decision-making interventions to promote cardiovascular health. The Research Associate will work with an interdisciplinary team to design, develop, and test a shared decision-making tool in advancing cardiovascular health.
The Research Associate will take a leadership role in collaborating with the research team to design, implement, and oversee a wide range of activities, including research and scholarship. Responsibilities will include leading research protocols, overseeing data management and analysis, preparing high-impact manuscripts, developing competitive grant proposals, and presenting findings at national and international conferences. The Research Associate will also mentor interdisciplinary research groups, providing guidance and leadership to junior researchers and postdoctoral fellows.
The Research Associate will have access to exceptional resources to support their research, including opportunities to publish in high-impact journals and assistance with securing external funding for independent research projects. The Research Associate will receive individualized mentoring and training to support their work and further develop their skills and competencies needed to design, implement, and evaluate cardiovascular shared decision-making tools and other interventions to improve cardiovascular health. The Research Associate will be expected to contribute to the Center's strategic goals and establish themselves as a leader in the field of cardiovascular health equity research. Additionally, the Research Associate will have the opportunity to teach a course(s) at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing.
This position is ideal for an experienced researcher with a strong track record of independent research, grant writing, and leadership in community-based clinical trials, cardiovascular health, shared decision-making research. The Research Associate will be expected to take on a more advanced and independent role than a postdoctoral fellow, contributing significantly to the Center's research agenda and mentoring the next generation of researchers.
The initial appointment will be for a one-year, non-tenure track. Decisions regarding faculty appointment extensions will be based on productivity, mid-year, and year-end progress reports and funding availability. The position provides salary and benefits commensurate with the candidate’s demonstrated work experience, skills, and leadership experience in this field.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- A PhD in nursing, behavioral sciences, or health related field is required.
- All applicants must have experience in cardiovascular health research, clinical trials, and health equity research.
- A strong applicant will be tremendously driven, independent, proficient in data management and analysis, digital-based intervention design and development, and a highly effective communicator.
Workplace Modality and Schedule Availability:
- M-F, 8:30 am -5 pm
- Modified Hybrid - prescribed onsite days based on program/center needs
