Team Overview

Luminar Technologies is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join our Perception team in developing state-of-the-art and novel solutions.

 

Responsibilities

• Lead machine learning based algorithm development for lidar perception
• Research and implement state-of-art lidar perception solutions.
• Own training and evaluation pipeline for ML models 
• Define data set for training and evaluation (using test fleet and customer cars)
• Oversee data labeling process and quality
• Ship ML-based lidar perception algorithms for series production programs
• Work with customers and GPU experts on ML acceleration on target platforms

Minimum Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD degree in computer science or a related field.
• Expertise in deep learning, computer vision, and/or autonomous systems.
• Experience in at least one of the following areas: 3D object detection/tracking, lane detection, semantic/instance segmentation, free space detection and scene understanding
• Strong programming skills in Python and /or C++
• Experience using deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.
• Critical thinking and problem solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Delivered  perception models/solutions  into real world environments and/or autonomous driving systems.
• Experience with CUDA programming
• Knowledge of model compression and optimization techniques such as quantization, etc.

At Luminar, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays a base between $166,000 and $233,000* per year. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. You will also be eligible to receive other benefits including: equity in the form of restricted stock unit awards, comprehensive medical and dental coverage, 401k plan, life and disability benefits, flexible time off, paid parental leave, and tuition reimbursement for formal education related to advancing your career at Luminar. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire and schedule type.
