Unit Leader for Camp Timberlane


Compensation: $475/week


Dates: June 7 to August 6, 2024


The Unit Leader will work as a team with the Program Director and program staff to develop and implement unit programs. Oversee unit counselors, unit paperwork, and scheduling. Work with campers to provide fun, high-quality program opportunities. Ensure the safety of all participants. Interact appropriately with campers in a variety of situations using appropriate positive behavior management techniques.


  Major Accountabilities:

  • Together with Unit Counselors, program staff, and campers, plan and execute the programs for campers 
  • Supervises unit staff in appropriate actions for health and safety of campers 
  • Responsible for the welfare, safety, and cleanliness of each individual and camper in unit 
  • Observes camper’s health and reports any concerns to Health Supervisor 
  • Informs Assistant Camp Director of any camper or staff problems 
  • Attends weekly Unit Leader meetings 
  • With help of Unit Counselors, fills out weekly paperwork and turns in to Assistant Camp Director 
  • Assist campers and staff who may need help fitting into the camp setting 
  • Ensures good morale by monitoring staff 
  • Assist each child with daily living tasks in living units as needed 
  • Submits the appropriate evaluations during camp 
  • Conducts initial and end-of-season inventory; store equipment for safety 
  • Ensures that duties are performed by Unit Counselors and campers 
  • Reports all incidents/accidents to supervisor immediately 
  • Responsible for completing and returning all records to the supervisor 
  • Maintain Girl Scouts of the United States of America, Girl Scouts of North East Ohio, and the American Camp Association standards at all times 
  • As a member of Girl Scouts of the United States of America, ensures that diversity, equity and belonging is embraced and incorporated into the work 
  • Other duties as needed to conduct a successful program 
  • Responsible for the welfare, safety, and cleanliness of each individual and camper in unit
  • Follows and enforces all recommended health guidelines, including handwashing and cleaning/sanitizing as needed

Requirements

-Minimum age 20

-Desire and ability to work with children and adults in a camp setting

-Ability to creatively schedule programs, facilities, and staff

-Able to supervise staff and campers

-Demonstrated ability to successfully handle conflict resolution at all levels with a variety of people, including external customers

-Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures

-Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers

-Ability to pay close attention to detail and maintain confidentiality

-Ability to communicate the written and spoken word with tact, diplomacy, and/or authority when necessary

-Well disciplined, able to meet deadlines

-Self-starter

-Ability to work well as a part of a team

-Knowledge of the Girl Scout program preferred
