The Service Department is responsible for servicing and installing various natural gas appliances (residential and commercial), setting and maintaining residential and light commercial meters, restoring gas service to customers, and responding to after-hours and emergency calls.
This position reports to the Company’s Gastonia Operations Center in Gastonia, North Carolina.
Important Note: This role is considered safety sensitive, and as such, you may be required to undergo various background screenings. This may include but is not limited to a driving record abstract, criminal check, a company sponsored medical and drug testing.
What You Will Do:
Assists in the installation of natural gas appliances, meters, and facilities in an efficient and safe manner while achieving excellent customer service.
Uses Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) to distribute and route work orders to computers mounted in company vehicles.
Lights gas pilots on natural gas residential and/or commercial appliances.
Completes minor appliance repairs.
Runs customer fuel lines.
Completes appropriate paperwork in writing and on the computer.
Safely drives a company vehicle.
Operator Qualifications involve written guidelines and requirements natural gas employees must follow to ensure the safe and responsible operation of natural gas pipelines. Required, annual Operator Qualification testing involves both written and hands-on components to ensure those who perform covered, safety-sensitive tasks on the natural gas system are trained, knowledgeable, and qualified.
Who You Are:
Gas Service Specialist I (18 months related experience)
Completed high school or equivalent (i.e. GED).
Possess a valid driver's license with a safe driving history.
Basic computer and internet navigation skills are key.
Must have knowledge and skills with common hand and power tools.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills for positive customer interactions.
Ability to work in enclosed areas like crawl spaces, basements, attics and elevated areas such as roofs and use of ladders, scaffolding and lifts.
Ability to understand and follow all safe working and defensive driving procedures.
Ability to serve as a natural gas emergency responder.
Availability for overtime and after-hours, on-call work (including weekends and holidays, if needed).
Completes paperwork in writing and on the computer.
Must be willing and able to meet a 45-minute emergency response time from the geographical center of the Gastonia area.
Emergency response time is a critical measure for the Company and candidates are required to consistently meet this requirement, including when on-call.
Working Conditions:
Position works around fumes, energized wires, dust/grease/oil, and in confined spaces.
Position may encounter agitated/upset customers.
Work is performed in customer's premise, as well as, outside in varying weather conditions (i.e. cold, heat, rain, etc.)
