The minions of Hell are growing stronger...
Join us as we continue to shape the Diablo universe! Diablo games are action RPG experiences with endless evil to slaughter, countless abilities to master, nightmarish dungeons, and legendary loot. Come work with us, and together, we’ll create experiences that not only meet but exceed the expectations of those who call Sanctuary home.
As an Engine Systems Engineer, you’ll be responsible for owning and evolving core technology that powers our game experiences. This includes foundational systems such as animation, visual VFX, physics, and audio. You’ll play a key role in ensuring seamless delivery to players through efficient asset loading and streaming, performance optimization, and platform integration. Your work will involve deep collaboration across disciplines as you wield platform SDKs, solve complex technical challenges, and help bring immersive gameplay to life across a variety of hardware.
This role offers a flexible hybrid work week, with a mix of remote and on-site days. While hybrid is the standard arrangement, you're also welcome to work on-site full-time if you prefer. Our primary studio locations are in Albany, NY, and Irvine, CA.
Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and maintain robust engine features and systems by collaborating closely with artists, designers, and other engineers to support creative and technical goals.
Drive workflow improvements across the engine pipeline, identifying pain points and streamlining processes to enhance team efficiency and productivity.
Ensure client and runtime stability by diagnosing complex issues, resolving bugs, and improving system resilience across multiple platforms.
Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the game engine, supporting performance, scalability, and platform compatibility.
Minimum Requirements:
5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on C++ in a real-time or game development context (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Proficiency in modern C++, with solid understanding of memory management, performance considerations, and software architecture.
Familiarity with a wide range of data structures and a practical understanding of when and how to use them.
Proven experience optimizing both code and data for runtime performance and memory efficiency.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines including design, art, and production.
Hands-on experience with multi-threaded programming and understanding of concurrency challenges.
Bonus Points:
Familiarity with C# or experience working with C#-based tools or systems.
Experience developing and optimizing games on console platforms (e.g., PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch).
Genuine passion for programming, whether through personal C++ projects, creative side work, or inventive experiments built just for fun. If you’ve been coding outside of class or work, we’d love to see it!
