Basic Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field. Also requires 10+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 8 years of job-related experience. Agile experience preferred.
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
ROLE AND POSITION OBJECTIVES:
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Principal Software Engineer within the Scottsdale-based Land and Air Systems Engineering team. This position provides an opportunity to lead the design and build of uniquely resilient hardware and software to ensure mission success in contested environments. The team is focused on tactical communications that span many Department of Defense customers, including special restricted customers. In a collaborative environment, the team works closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership in Agile project managment and execution.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ programming languages.
- Knowledge of networking protocols and socket programming.
- Strong Linux background, including device trees and drivers.
- Experience in software architecture
- Proficient in mentoring across various levels of software experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with microcontroller programming and debugging.
- Familiarity with hardware interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, and GPIO.
- Proficiency in using debugging tools like GDB, JTAG, and logic analyzers.
- Experience with cross-compilation and toolchains for embedded systems.
- Understanding of memory management and performance optimization in embedded systems.
Addtional Skills (Nice to Have):
- Ability to sense development progress using tight feedback loops and responding accordingly.
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS).
- Knowledge of cryptographic protocols such as SSL/TLS, IPsec, and PGP.
- Understanding of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) concepts.
- Familiarity with hypervisors and virtualization technologies (e.g., KVM, Xen).
- Proficiency with Buildroot or similar build systems for embedded Linux.
- Knowledge of security practices in embedded systems development.
