Director, Engineering - Seed Business Strategy

Job Summary

As a Director of Engineering leading Seed Business Strategy and Market Creation, you will be part of the North America Research and Development (R&D) team working on a wide range of new and existing solutions spanning DENSO’s vast product portfolio and investments.  We are looking for a candidate to work with us on innovative solutions and services inside and outside the vehicle spectrum where leadership, mentorship, and results are core to this highly visible role.  Candidate must be an expert in seed business creation as well as extremely collaborative.

Responsibilities

• Build, define, and assess DENSO seed business opportunities to prioritize investments across the portfolio. 
• Lead and create the seed/early stage business strategy for NA/Global DENSO R&D and commercialization efforts in Mobility and other markets. 
• Propose and establish solutions and business models that build upon DENSO’s core capabilities, new research, and strategic growth areas. 
• Identify and establish strategic partnerships and customer contracts towards targeted growth in market share and revenue.
• Define tradeoffs of market share vs revenue as well as data vs service for all strategic investments.
• Scale the seed business creation organization across multiple solutions as needed to obtain the desired market success, scalability, commercialization glide path.
• Increase DENSO business-oriented R&D capability and skillsets via internal on the job training and new hires.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field. 
• 10+ years of relevant experience plus 5+ years leading teams and people.
• Demonstrated history in creating seed business with a clear vision of the market needs and the company opportunity.
• Fluent knowledge of current mobility/infrastructure market trends and demonstrated success in anticipating both near and far term opportunities.
• Ability to communicate complex material effectively in written and oral formats to various internal and external audiences.
• An entrepreneurial mindset, with the tenacity to bring concepts to market with an ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• A mentoring mindset with a history of building both organizations and individuals towards shared successes.
• Technical understanding of smart mobility/infrastructure market with experience working with technology ecosystems needed to assemble new solutions.
• Needs to be the SME and mentor others while finding independent ways to grow personally as well.
• Combination of both strategy and operational competency.
