About the role

Description

Currently, we are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Dental Hygienist, a licensed oral healthcare professional who works as a vital member of a dental team to provide preventive and therapeutic dental services to patients. The primary responsibility of a dental hygienist is to perform thorough cleanings and oral examinations to help patients maintain optimal oral health. Their role involves educating patients on proper oral hygiene practices and assisting dentists in various dental procedures.

 

Essential Job Duties: 

  • conduct thorough cleanings, including removing plaque, tartar, and stains from patients' teeth. They use specialized tools like scalers and polishers to ensure teeth surfaces are smooth and free of debris.
  • perform preliminary dental examinations, including assessing the patient's oral health, checking for signs of decay, gum disease, and other dental issues. They may also take dental X-rays to aid in diagnosis.
  • perform deep cleaning procedures like scaling and root planning to remove bacteria and promote gum healing.
  • educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, such as brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash effectively. They also provide advice on maintaining a healthy diet and avoiding habits that could harm dental health.
  • monitor patients' oral health over time, track changes, and communicate findings to the dentist. They assist in creating treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs.
  • Apply fluoride treatments and dental sealants to protect teeth from decay. They may also administer antimicrobial agents to control bacterial growth in the mouth.
  • Accurate record-keeping is essential in dental practice. Dental hygienists maintain detailed patient records, including treatments provided, oral health assessments, and any notable findings.
  • work closely with dentists and dental assistants, assisting in various procedures and ensuring a smooth flow of patient care.
  • Participates in the QI program, or other committees, of the center as required.
  • Insures the proper disposal of all contaminated or potentially contaminated materials in accordance with Dental Department directive and center policy as well as state and federal regulations(s).
  • As directed by a supervisor, performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for personal compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dental hygiene and the clinical provision of dental hygiene services as well as those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, workplace safety, public health and confidentiality.
  • Be a positive role model for all health center staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Strong knowledge of dental anatomy, oral health, and dental hygiene techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills to educate and interact with patients effectively.
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in maintaining accurate records.
  • Ability to work well in a team and collaborate with other dental professionals.
  • Empathy and compassion towards patients to create a comfortable and trusting environment.
  • Knowledge of infection control and safety protocols.
  • Manual dexterity for using dental tools and instruments.
  • Must be able to creatively work with other health care professionals from a variety of disciplines to achieve maximal program effectiveness and patient benefit.

Qualifications

  • Unrestricted license to practice Oral Hygiene in the State of Ohio.
  • Current CPR (BLS) certification.
  • Pass a Background Check. 
  • Must graduate from an accredited dental hygiene program.
  • Experience required or preferred.
